How To Fix ModWood Fencing?

Nevertheless, here is a quick overview of the ModWood. Modwood is a composite product made from a mixture of ground sustainable wood waste and plastic. It is proudly made here in Melbourne! An Australian made and owned product that uses recycled plastic milk bottles for the production of ModWood. Better for the environment and looks good at the same time!

Now the answer to the question: how to fix ModWood, or more precisely, how to fix Modwood fencing?

Firstly, we need to know what needs fixing. When it comes to Modwood material, scratches and scuffs are your main concern. ModWood's brushed surface doesn't actually show scuffs and scratches easily. Therefore, if the Modwood fencing or Modwood deck is partially or fully in the shade, then the brushed side should be installed facing up or facing your preferred side. When the MoodWood isn't in the shade and is constantly opened to harsh weather conditions, then the smoother side (darker side) has to be installed in the way the smoother side will be exposed to the weather rather than the brushed side.

The smoother side has excess lubricants put on the surface of the product. That is the reason why it shows also more scuffs and scratches. For example, if you use a decking oil and a clean rug to rub the Modwood fence or a deck, then the scratches will become less noticeable. Also, being exposed to the constant weather conditions will make Modwood return to its natural colour. That also helps to hide the scuffs and scratches on the smooth MoodWood surface.

When you notice scratches and scuffs on the brushed surface, you can also use a wire-brush or lightly sanded coarse sandpaper to remove scuffs and scratches from the brushed ModWood. After brushing the scratched area with either wire-brush or sandpaper, that area will fade out, thus hiding the repairs you made.

When treating scuffs and scratches on ModWood boards on your fencing, you can also approach it as you would to most timber fences. You should also know that since ModWood is a finished product, unlike timber boards, then some scratches caused by hard or sharp objects may be more noticeable.

What to do to make scratches less noticeable? As mentioned before, the smooth surface of the ModWood boards will fade and lose their shining surface, thus the scratches and scuffs will become similar to the colour of the board and would be less noticeable. Therefore, if you have recently installed a new ModWood Fence, and you have noticed some scratches, then don't rush. In time they will become less noticeable.

If these scratches will bother to the extent that it will become a stress factor or the side of your ModWood fence doesn't get exposed to weather often, then a quick fix might be needed. What is the quick fix? It's the oil treatment. All you need is a clean rag or a tissue. Sometimes using a vegetable or baby oil will solve the problem. Just rub it onto the scratched area, let it sit for a minute or three, and take a clean rag or a tissue and wipe away as much excess oil off the ModWood surface board as possible.
