Dry needling

What is dry needling?

Dry needling involves positioning a solid filament needle in to the trigger points of pain. These needles are also used in acupuncture and are very thin, so you shouldn’t feel any discomfort when having a treatment. A trigger point is found when pressing the needle in to a tender or tight spot on the skin. Dry needling can reduce muscle tension, offers pain control and relief, and helps get your health back to its normal state.

The term dry needling differentiates the use of needling in acupuncture and the use of needling for the musculoskeletal and nervous system based on western neuroanatomy.

How dry needling can help

At our Frankston clinic, we help to relieve you of problems including muscle spasms, sciatica, knee pain, back pain, chronic injuries, headaches and more. Side effects from dry needling vary from patient to patient but they are usually minor and can include sore skin and bruising.

Thanks to our excellent needle techniques and experience in attaining accurate assessments, any post treatment soreness is minimal and sometimes non-existent.

Dry needling treatments can be performed on their own or combined with physiotherapy treatments if we feel that you need both to improve your health issues.
