Our LifeCare history

The name Lifecare came from a group of highly successful practices in 1985 around Perth but the origins of Lifecare comes from two separate organisations. Sports Medicine Centres of Victoria also developed a number of multi-disciplinary sports medicine practices around the same time, based on the success of their Prahran and Ashwood practices.

It was in the year 2000 that Lifecare and Sports Medicine Centres merged, resulting in one of the largest networks of physiotherapy and allied health private practices in Australia.

Michael Kenihan

As a foundation partner and principle manager of Sports Medicine Federation and Sports Medicine Centres in Victoria, Michael has an outstanding reputation for being an APA sports physiotherapist. Michael has been a Lifecare executive and a deputy chief operations officer at IPN where he has managed allied health and medical practices and practitioners across Australia.

His critical involvement has helped provide resolutions to an array of strategic and day to day operational issues and is an asset to our company. Michael’s interests lie in business development and effective private practice management and he continues to fulfil and excel at these duties as the General Manager of Lifecare Victoria.

Cameron Tweedie

B.App Sc (Phty), Grad Dip Manip Physio

Cameron is the State Manager at LifeCare WA and has been working with us since 1990, after graduating from Curtin University School of Physiotherapy. He is now Vice President of the school and an Adjunct Senior Teaching Fellow, and an advisor to the School Advisory Board and Board of Study. Since joining LifeCare, Cameron has held many positions including National Operations Manager, Marketing Manager and State Allied Health Director, and has worked as a treating practitioner at 8 of our different centres.

Cameron is an active member of the Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine community, having been on the State committee of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), the Musculo-Skeletal Physiotherapy Australia (MPA), and Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) for many years. Cameron is also a member of the SMA Finance committee, and Physiotherapy Clinical Placements Committee. He has been a physiotherapist for the Swan Districts Football club as well as a number of State and International Athletes and spent 12 years playing in A grade Amateur football whilst being captain for 3. He is a life member of the West Coast Amateur Football Club and is married with 3 growing children, and coaches his son's junior football team.

Jon Ford

PhD, M Physio, B App Sc Physio, Cred MDT

Dr Jon Ford commenced working at Prahran Sports Medicine Centre in 1988, and in the early 90s he began lecturing at The University of Melbourne. Jon began the process of developing evidence-based clinical programs with a focus on clinical reasoning with a bio psychosocial approach. A sub-division of the business developed and now Spinal Management Clinics of Victoria has become one of the leading providers of physiotherapy and multi-disciplinary functional restoration programs in Australia.

Jon continues his academic work as the head of The University of Melbourne and the Low Back Pain Research Team at The School of Physiotherapy. He is also a partner and clinician in the LifeCare and Spinal Management network where he has an ongoing role in clinical and commercial education, mentoring, performance management and business development.
