Wouldn't it be great if you could see how your muscles contract when exercising?
Here at Life Frankston Physiotherapy, you can do just that with a realtime ultrasound assessment, where you can watch the different layers of your muscles contract on an ultrasound. You’ll see your muscles relax and the contraction timing and size and see how much fatty tissue is contained within. This allows your Lifescare Frankston physiotherapist to point out which muscles should be working and when you are activating them correctly.
A realtime ultrasound assessment’s main aim is to give you a better understanding of how you should activate your muscles as you’ll get immediate visual feedback whilst you learn. We look at the deep abdominals, the pelvic floor muscles and the deep muscles of the lower back to assess their function. The equipment is non-invasive and uses high frequency sound waves (not radiation) to produce images, just like an ultrasound used on a pregnant woman. The physiotherapist will use a handheld probe to see the different layers within the depths of your body.
The most popular conditions that can be assisted by real time ultrasound physiotherapy include:
In cases of acute or chronic lower back pain, poor posture, incontinence, or following spinal and abdominal surgery including C-sections, your physiotherapist may suggest using realtime ultrasound assessments as part of your treatment.
The core stabilising muscles often switch off when you are experiencing pain, but with training, you can learn to switch these muscles back on, helping them to start activating automatically on a day to day basis.
